The Eckmühl lighthouse owes its name to the title of Prince of Eckmühl, awarded to Marshal Louis-Nicolas Davout by Napoleon I after the Battle of Eckmühl in 1809. His daughter, the Marquise de Blocqueville, donated a significant sum of money to enable the construction of this exceptional lighthouse, inaugurated in 1897.

Standing at 65 metres, it is one of the tallest lighthouses in France. Its staircase of 307 steps leads to a spectacular panorama over the Bay of Audierne, Penmarc'h and the Pays Bigouden.

The interior of the lighthouse is equally remarkable: the walls are covered with more than 12,000 opaline tiles, a white glass stone that beautifully reflects natural light and gives the staircase a unique gleam.

Every year, the lighthouse hosts a sporting event that has become a must: the Eckmühl Lighthouse Climb. Participants climb the 307 steps as fast as possible before heading back down towards the port of Saint-Guénolé, in a friendly, festive atmosphere.
